Exempt are journeys for the transport of animals for slaughter, feed and perishable foodstuffs, postal consignments and periodicals, for the supply of beverages in excursion areas, for the urgent supply of filling stations, catering businesses and events, for repairs to refrigeration systems, for towing and breakdown assistance, for deployment in disasters, for medical care, for road or rail construction, journeys of vehicles of the road maintenance authority, the public security service, the fire brigade, waste collection and waste disposal as well as of a scheduled transport operator, journeys with showman-type vehicles, journeys of the Austrian armed forces and foreign troops, journeys of relief transports by recognised organisations, journeys from and to airports, as well as journeys in combined rail-road and water-road freight transport with the corresponding proof.

General rules
Regular calendar bans apply on set days: Sundays, public holidays and seasonal periods.
In addition to the weekend and public holiday ban, a night driving ban applies every day; on the A 12 a separate IG-L night driving ban and a sectoral driving ban apply. In 2026, additional driving bans apply on the A 12, A 13 and A 14 because of the general renewal of the Lueg bridge.

Night driving ban (§ 42 (6) StVO)
Every day from 22:00 to 05:00, lorries and articulated vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight over 7.5 t, as well as lorries with a trailer where one of the vehicles exceeds 3.5 t, may not be driven. Low-noise vehicles are exempt under the conditions of § 42 StVO.

IG-L night driving ban on the A 12 Inntal motorway
On the A 12 between km 6.35 (Langkampfen) and km 90.00 (Zirl), for lorries and articulated vehicles over 7.5 t and lorries with a trailer over 7.5 t gross weight: from 1 May to 31 October from 22:00 to 05:00, on Sundays and public holidays from 23:00 to 05:00; from 1 November to 30 April from 20:00 to 05:00, on Sundays and public holidays from 23:00 to 05:00. Exempt are, among others, Euro VI vehicles with origin or destination in the defined zone, perishable foodstuffs, live animals, electric and hydrogen vehicles.

Sectoral driving ban on the A 12 Inntal motorway
On the A 12 between km 6.35 (Langkampfen) and km 72.00 (Ampass), in both directions, lorries and articulated vehicles over 7.5 t and lorries with a trailer over 7.5 t are prohibited from transporting the following goods: all waste listed in the European Waste Catalogue, stone, soil and excavated material, round timber and cork, motor vehicles of classes L, M1, M2 and N1, non-ferrous and ferrous ores, steel (except reinforcing and structural steel for construction sites), marble and travertine, and ceramic tiles. Exempt are, among others, journeys with origin or destination in the core zone, pre- and post-haulage to the rail terminals Hall in Tirol and Wörgl, and Euro VI vehicles (NOx no more than 0.4 g/kWh).

Auf der A 12 zwischen km 6,35 (Langkampfen) und km 72,00 (Ampass) ist in beiden Fahrtrichtungen für Lkw und Sattelkraftfahrzeuge über 7,5 t sowie Lkw mit Anhänger über 7,5 t der Transport folgender Güter verboten: alle Abfälle des Europäischen Abfallverzeichnisses, Steine, Erden und Aushub, Rundholz und Kork, Kraftfahrzeuge der Klassen L, M1, M2 und N1, Nichteisen- und Eisenerze, Stahl (ausgenommen Bewehrungs- und Konstruktionsstahl für Baustellen), Marmor und Travertin sowie keramische Fliesen. Ausgenommen sind unter anderem Fahrten mit Quelle oder Ziel in der Kernzone, Vor- und Nachlaufverkehre zu den Bahnterminals Hall in Tirol und Wörgl sowie Euro-VI-Fahrzeuge (NOx höchstens 0,4 g/kWh).
