Exceptions
Under Art. 91a VRV the following are exempt, among others: vehicles for passenger transport, agricultural and forestry vehicles, journeys of the fire brigade, civil protection, ambulance service, police and the military as well as disaster relief, journeys of the Swiss Post within the universal service obligation, transport of foodstuffs with a use-by date of no more than 30 days (not deep-frozen, UHT-treated or sterilised), transport of animals for slaughter and sport horses, cut flowers, daily newspapers and journeys for current television reporting. For other unavoidable journeys the canton of location may issue an exemption permit under Art. 92 VRV.

Ausgenommen sind nach Art. 91a VRV unter anderem: Fahrzeuge zum Personentransport, land- und forstwirtschaftliche Fahrzeuge, Fahrten der Feuerwehr, des Zivilschutzes, der Sanität, der Polizei und des Militärs sowie Katastrophenhilfe, Fahrten der Schweizerischen Post im Rahmen der Grundversorgung, Transporte von Lebensmitteln mit einer Verbrauchsfrist von höchstens 30 Tagen (nicht tiefgefroren, ultrahocherhitzt oder sterilisiert), Transporte von Schlachttieren und Sportpferden, Schnittblumen, Tageszeitungen und Fahrten für aktuelle Fernsehreportagen. Für weitere unvermeidbare Fahrten kann der Standortkanton nach Art. 92 VRV eine Ausnahmebewilligung erteilen.

Under Art. 91 (3) VRV the ban covers heavy motor vehicles, commercial tractors and self-propelled working machines, articulated vehicles with a total train weight over 5 t, and vehicles with a trailer over 3.5 t. If a public holiday is not observed in a canton, the driving ban does not apply there either.

Unter das Verbot fallen nach Art. 91 Abs. 3 VRV schwere Motorwagen, gewerbliche Traktoren und Arbeitsmotorwagen, Sattelmotorfahrzeuge mit einem Gesamtzugsgewicht über 5 t sowie Fahrzeuge mit einem Anhänger über 3,5 t. Wird ein Feiertag in einem Kanton nicht gefeiert, gilt dort auch das Fahrverbot nicht.

Night driving ban (Art. 91 VRV)
Every day from 22:00 to 05:00 a night driving ban applies to vehicles over 3.5 t, articulated vehicles with a total train weight over 5 t and vehicles with a trailer over 3.5 t. For unavoidable trips the canton of location may issue an exemption permit.
